Arizona Fall League

Yesterday was the best and worst of Tommy La Stella. You saw a few shortcomings, but in the end, he contributed to another Scorpions victory. Here are the stat lines:

  • Tommy La Stella – 1-4, run, triple, GIDP, error
  • Kyle Kubitza – 1-4, 3 Ks
  • Juan Jaime – 1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
  • John Cornely – 1 IP, 0 ER, 1 K

La Stella was having his worst game of the season for the first 8 innings yesterday. Tommy committed his first AFL error on a grounder from the second batter of the game. His first three at bats were a double play, a ground out and an infield pop up.  For the first time all season, he had also failed to work a walk in a game. His team was losing 1-0 going into the 9th and LaStella was leading off. Of course, he put his sub-par game behind him, and promptly tripled to lead off the 9th and scored on a passed ball to tie the game that the Scorpions would eventually win in the 10th.  His hit/walk streak in every game ended, but I’m sure Tommy didn’t really mind after finishing the game out so strong.

Kyle Kubitza also helped contribute to the win after having a bad day at the plate. Kyle was 0-3 with 3 strikeouts until he singled in the 10th. John Cornely earned the victory by pitching a perfect top of the 10th.  Juan Jaime wasn’t as good yesterday.  Jaime gave up the Scorpions lone run in the 6th.  After striking out the first batter he faced, he gave up a single and allowed the guy to steal 2nd and 3rd before giving up a walk and a single to drive the run in.  He did induce an inning ending double play to get out of the jam.

The Scorpions will try to win their 6th game in a row today at 12:35 MST.  Check back with us tomorrow for the recap.

Dominican Winter League

Neither Christian Bethancourt or Edward Salcedo were in action for their respective teams yesterday.  There were only 2 Braves pitchers that saw action in the DWL yesterday.

  • Juan Cedeno earned a HOLD in relief yesterday by pitching 0.2 scoreless innings.  He did allow a hit.
  • Jose Lugo pitched 1 scoreless inning in relief yesterday and struck out 2.

Check back with us tomorrow for updates on all the Braves DWL prospects.
