Arizona Fall League & Dominican Winter League Recaps: 10/31

Arizona Fall League
- Tommy La Stella – 1-4, GIDP, Fielding error
- Elmer Reyes – 1-4, K
- Shae Simmons – 1 IP, 2 H, 2 K
- John Cornely – 1 IP, 3 BB, 1 K
Tommy La Stella finally had a normal game yesterday. He did get a hit, but also grounded into a double play and committed his second error of the AFL season. Elmer Reyes also went 1-4 yesterday. Shae Simmons pitched a scoreless inning for his 5th straight scoreless outing. Simmons got himself into some trouble by giving up 2 singles, but got out of the 2 on with 1 out jam by striking out the next two batters. John Cornely walked the bases loaded by himself in the 9th, but didn’t allow any of those guys to come around to score. This was Cornely’s 4th straight scoreless outing, striking out a total of 7 in 4.1 innings over that span and not allowing a single hit.
Also of note, Shae Simmons was the only Braves prospect selected to the Fall Stars Game that will be played on Saturday night. Tommy La Stella not being on that team is a complete joke in my opinion.

Dominican Winter League
A few guys saw action in DWL play yesterday. Here are the lines:
- Christian Bethancourt – 0-0
- Juan Cedeno – 0.1 IP, HOLD
- Jose Lugo – 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 Ks
- Edward Salcedo – 0-6, K
- Wirfin Obispo – 1.1 IP, LOSS, 1 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
Bethancourt came in late as a defensive replacement, but did not get a plate appearance. Juan Cedeno earned his 3rd hold of the season by retiring 1 batter. Jose Lugo kept up his good work, going 1.1 perfect innings with 2 strikeouts. Lugo has 9 strikeouts in his 5.2 innings pitched in the DWL so far and allowed only 1 run. Edward Salcedo had a tough day at the dish yesterday going 0-6 with a strikeout. In the same game, Wirfin Obispo was saddled with the loss that wasn’t entirely his fault. After pitching a perfect 12th, Obispo walked a man to start off the 13th inning, the runner tried to steal and the catcher sailed the throw into CF and allowed the runner to take third and eventually score.
Today is an off day for the DWL and there are no games. They will resume play on Friday.
