Arizona Fall League

Only one Brave saw action yesterday in the AFL.  Here is how he did:

  • Juan Jaime – 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 K

Juan Jaime has been up and down all through the AFL season. Yesterday, he was up.  Jaime pitched a perfect inning yesterday and struck out 2 batters in the Scorpions 4-0 win. Jaime is now sporting a 7.56 ERA in his 8.1 innings of work. He has allowed 18 base-runners in his 8.1 innings, which gives him a WHIP north of 2.00. The only thing he has really done well is striking guys out. He has recorded 25 outs and 12 of them have been via the K.

The Scorpions are back in action tonight at 7:08 MST.  Hopefully, they will play some more Braves today so we have more to report.

Dominican Winter League

Only 2 games in the DWL yesterday, but he had plenty of Braves action.  Here are the lines:

  • Christian Bethancourt – 0-3, K, two throwing errors, passed ball, 2 SB Against/1 Caught
  • Juan Cedeno – 0.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 K
  • Jose Lugo – 1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, HOLD

It was a rough game continuing a rough DWL season for the possible future Braves catcher.  Christian Bethancourt, known for his catching prowess behind the plate, made 2 throwing errors, allowed a passed ball and allowed 2 of 3 base-runners to steal on him.  To top it off, Christian went 0-3 and was pinch hit for in the 9th inning of a tie ball game. Not a banner day for the young catcher. He has struggled hitting all season, putting up an ugly .130/.222/.174/.396 in 25 plate appearances.  I know it’s a small sample, but it’s still ugly.  The bigger concern is the throwing errors for the defensive guru.  He has 3 of them in his last 2 games.

The Braves did have 2 lefty pitching prospects throw yesterday.  Juan Cedeno, who has not allowed a run in his last 6 outings, finally had a tough time yesterday.  He allowed a run on two hits and only recorded 1 out.  Jose Lugo had better luck throwing a scoreless inning and getting his second HOLD of the DWL season.  Lugo has pitched well, totaling a 2.35 ERA in 7.2 innings while striking out 10.

Two more games are scheduled today down in the DWL. As always, we will be back tomorrow with all the updates and stats.
