Arizona Fall League

I don’t think anyone cares about this too much today, but we are still here to report about something OTHER than the new Braves Cobb County stadium news.  Here were the weekend stat lines from the AFL:

Friday 11/8

  • Tommy La Stella – 1-3, BB
  • Robby Hefflinger – 0-3, K
  • Kyle Kubitza – 0-2, BB, 2 K, Fielding error

Saturday 11/9

  • Tommy La Stella – 1-2, 2B, 2 BB
  • Elmer Reyes – 1-3, 2 runs
  • Robby Hefflinger – 0-3, SacFly, RBI, 0 K
  • Juan Jaime – 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 K

Friday was a rough game for the Scorpions as they were shut out and managed only 3 hits during the entire ball game. Thankfully, one of those hits was from Tommy La Stella.  La Stella had a good weekend after sitting out a few days with a mild lower back strain.  He went 2-5 in the two games with a double and 3 walks.  Tommy now has a 16BB/4K ratio, and I don’t have to tell you how awesome that is.

Robby Hefflinger had another hitless weekend, going 0-6, but on a positive spin, he did get hit a sacrifice fly to knock a run home and only struck out 1 time all weekend. Gotta start somewhere, right?  Kyle Kubitza only played on Friday and didn’t have his best game.  He went 0-2, struck-out twice and had a fielding error on top of that.  Elmer Reyes only played on Saturday, but went 1-3 and scored twice.  He always seems to contribute something positive to the game.

Juan Jaime was the only Braves pitcher that saw action this weekend. For a change, Jaime had a positive outing, going one scoreless inning and striking out 2. It was Jaime’s second scoreless outing in a row after 3 strait appearances of allowing runs. Hopefully he can finish the AFL season on a high note to give him some more confidence going into next season.

The AFL was off on Sunday but will resume play today.  The Scorpions game is scheduled to start at 12:35 MST.  We will be back here tomorrow with the recap.

Dominican Winter League

Friday 11/8

  • Wirfin Obispo – 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, HOLD

Saturday 11/9

  • Christian Bethancourt – 0-3, 1 stolen base against
  • Omar Luna – 0-2

It has not been a good season for any of the Braves hitters down in the DWL. The three position players that are down there (Bethancourt, Salcedo, Luna) are a combined 7-55 (.128) on the season with only 2 extra base hits.  They are also getting very sporadic playing time, so that could contribute a bit to their inconsistent bats also.

Wirfin Obispo pitched a perfect inning this weekend and earned a HOLD in the process.

Not much to report down there at this time, so now you can get back to your twitter arguments about the Cobb County Stadium. We will be back tomorrow with more updates on the Fall and Winter leagues.
