After an utter dismantling of the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils earlier in the week, the Georgia Tech basketball program takes a major leap in competition, as they travel to Brooklyn to take on the Ole Miss Rebels in the Barclays Center Classic. This is a unique spot for the Jackets, as they have a national TV audience (on NBC Sports Network) against a major conference opponent who enters the game undefeated, and that should bring some extra eyeballs.

On the court, Tech has been lights-out defensively this year, ranking in the top-50 in defensive efficiency while allowing only 96.7 points per 100 possessions this year. That type of lock-down effort will come in handy against Ole Miss, as they have over a 10-point differential offense to defense this year. The Rebels are led by Jarvis Summers, and the 6-foot-3 guard will be the player to watch for Brian Gregory’s defense.

Our friends in Las Vegas have installed Ole Miss as a 1.5-point favorite in the game, and that seems about right based on the advanced metrics (including a 76-73 prediction from KenPom.com). If the Jackets are able to grab a win here, they’ll face off with the winner of St. John’s and Penn State in Saturday’s “championship” match-up, but if not, they’ll play whoever loses that game in the consolation game.

Stay tuned for more information as it arrives, and we will bring you a recap after the final buzzer sounds.
