After a long break for finals, the Georgia Bulldog basketball team returned to action with a 9-point win over Lipscomb, and now, they have a very interesting game on Thursday against the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs. The most interesting part of the game is probably the start time (11:30 AM ET on a weekday!), but aside from that, it should be a fairly entertaining game.

For the reasoning on why the tip is so early, we turn to an official release from the Georgia basketball program:

"Today’s game tips off at 11:30 a.m. to accommodate the nearly 5,000 Athens-Clarke County school children, faculty and staff that are slated to attend. Thursday is their final school day of the calendar year. Last season, Georgia entertained a similar number of area school personnel when the Bulldogs defeated Mercer 58-49 in an 11:30 a.m. tipoff."

On the floor, the visitors aren’t exactly scorching hot, having been blown out by Duke on Monday (which isn’t a crime), but they aren’t a pushover, either. GWU has struggled offensively this season, scoring just 97.8 points per 100 possessions, and that is a good sign for UGA’s struggling defense. In addition, Gardner-Webb has some size challenges (no one that plays regularly is taller than 6-foot-7), and UGA will presumably have a bulk edge on the interior.

Our close, personal friends in Las Vegas have fallen short of posting a line to this point, but that is backed up by KenPom projecting UGA to grab a 9-point win in the game. To be honest, it would be a devastating home loss for the Dawgs if they fell here, no matter the tip-off time, and I’d expect to see their best effort in front of what should be a lively crowd.

Stay tuned for more information as it comes, and a game recap to follow.
