It’s been a productive and emotional week for Mark Fox the UGA basketball family, as they got (by far) their best win of the season in Columbia against Missouri on Wednesday night. However, there is little rest for the road-weary Dawgs, as they host rival Alabama on Saturday.

The Georgia defense was the biggest factor in their road win over Mizzou, but they’ll be challenged again by a talented squad from Alabama. The Tide are scuffling a bit on offense on the whole, but senior guard Trevor Releford could give the Dawgs fits here. He is averaging over 18 points per game on the year, and the Charles Mann/Kenny Gaines combo will have their hands full.

Scoring could be the bigger issue, though, as Bama’s defense currently ranks in the top 20% of the country. The Tide are only allowing 97.1 points per 100 possessions on that end of the floor, and when you line that up against a middling UGA offense, the numbers don’t stack up favorably.

Las Vegas has made the Crimson Tide a 1.5-point favorite despite the game being on the road, and that’s probably a solid indication of where the teams are. Still, Georgia has shown a different “gear” in their arsenal based on the Missouri performance, and if they can replicate that, they’ll be in the game (at the very least) until the very end.

Stay tuned for more information as it comes, and a game recap to follow.
