The Georgia Bulldogs (9-7) are coming off a dramatic overtime win against Arkansas and hoping to take that momentum and use it to get another win against SEC rival South Carolina (7-10).

The Gamecocks actually stack up almost identically to the Bulldogs on paper–according to KenPom.com–despite different overall records. South Carolina has yet to get a conference victory (0-4) and should be bringing a lot of energy in an attempt to turn their season around. They are the No. 132 team in the nation and are 164th and 137th, respectively, in adjusted offense and defense. The Gamecocks are scoring just 104.8 points per 100 possessions while allowing 102.3 points per 100 possessions.

Comparatively, UGA is the No. 134 team in the nation and the 170th and 132nd in adjusted offense and defense, scoring 104.4 per 100 possessions and allowing 102.1 per 100 possessions. Those numbers are extremely close to South Carolina’s.

With that said, the Gamecocks are coming off of an extremely close game with a much better Ole Miss team. They lost, but only by one point. Freshman guard Sindarius Thornwell led both teams with 24 points on 7-16 shooting (4-7 from three) in that game, and he’ll be one of the guys Georgia will need to watch out for. He is leading South Carolina in scoring this season with 12 points per game and also shooting 40 percent from 3. Junior guard Tyrone Johnson will be another player to watch out for, as he is scoring 11.2 points per game to go with his 3.4 assists per game and 42.1 3-point percentage.

Our pals in Las Vegas have pegged Georgia as a 4.5-point favorite at home against the Gamecocks, which is a bit of a bigger spread than I would expect. However, South Carolina is sitting three games under .500 and the Bulldogs are two games over… that plus the home-court advantage UGA has probably explains the odds.

Stay tuned for more information as it comes, and a game recap to follow.
