The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (11-9) are coming off of a tough overtime loss to N.C. State, and are looking to rebound against another team from the Tar Heel state… The North Carolina Tar Heels (12-7).

While UNC is far from the caliber that fans are used to (trust me on this one), they have three huge wins under their belt and are coming off of one of their better games of late. While the Tar Heels’ offensive struggles have been well-noted this year, they are a very good defensive team. According to KenPom.com, UNC’s adjusted defense is the 27th-best in the nation, allowing only 94.6 points per 100 possessions. Offense is a different beast entirely, with the Heels coming in at No. 75 (109.5 points per 100 possessions) in this category.

Despite UNC being worse than normal at this point, their numbers still look much better than Georgia Tech’s. The Yellow Jackets are 203rd in adjusted offense and 93rd in adjusted defense. They score just 102.7 points per 100, and allow 93 points per 100 possessions.

Even though UNC is bringing a considerable bit more talent, it’s far from a guaranteed loss for Tech. North Carolina is one of the worst 3-point shooting teams in the country, and if they can force Marcus Paige and Leslie McDonald to take lots of bad shots from deep, they could have a chance. So the first priority is probably shutting down James Michael McAdoo, who is coming off one of his most electric games of the season in the team’s 80-61 win over Clemson.

During that game, McAdoo scored 22 points while taking the ball to the basket over and over again with ease. If Georgia Tech can prevent him from scoring early, much of the burden will fall on Paige and up until the Clemson game, he had been a bit cold from the field.

Vegas has the Jackets as 4-point underdogs at home in this one, which is actually a bit more generous than I would have expected. The Tar Heels have taken down Michigan State, Louisville and Kentucky this season… but they’ve also dropped games to UAB, Belmont and Wake Forest. This game could go a number of ways depending on which Tar Heel team shows up.

Stay tuned for more information as it arrives, and we will bring you a recap after the final buzzer sounds.
