Georgia Tech started off their baseball season in shaky fashion at the Battle in Midtown tournament last week, but they are hoping to smooth things out with a seven game home stand that starts with this weekend’s series against UNC-Greensboro.

Wednesday night the Yellow Jackets also took on Georgia Southern in an exhibition game and lost 4-3.

The Jackets have dropped a few close games, so I wouldn’t worry too much about the slow start (we are talking about baseball after all) but it would be nice for the team to grab a series win here and get some confidence and momentum going.

Here are this weekend’s pitching matchups with Tech pitchers listed first and UNC-G listed second:

  • Friday, Feb. 21 (4:00 p.m.) – Jonathan King (6.75 ERA/4 IP/4 Ks/ 1 BB) vs. Ryan Clark
  • Saturday, Feb. 22 (2:00 p.m.) – Cole Pitts (1.80 ERA/ 5 IP/ 3 Ks/ 0 BBs) vs. Max Povse
  • Sunday, Feb. 23 (1:00 p.m.) – Josh Heddinger (1.80 ERA/ 5 IP/ 2 Ks/ 2 BBs) vs. Lee Gilliam

During this series we should watch out for infielder Matt Gonzalez who’s leading the team in hitting at the moment. He’s leading the team with a .385 batting average after getting five hits in his 13 at bats during Tech’s first four games. With four doubles already, he’s also tied for the ACC lead in that category.
