The Atlanta Dream improved to 2-0 on the young 2014 campaign as they went up to Indianapolis and played tit-for-tat with the Indiana Fever, and when the final buzzer sounded 50 minutes later, it was Atlanta on top 90-88.

The Fever opened the game up on a 10-2 run, and from there, the teams exchanged runs. Down the stretch, the Dream played – and got away with – some physical basketball, but couldn’t capitalize and played sloppy and rushed offense, allowing the Fever to keep Atlanta from scoring and force overtime. And then, oddly enough, the first overtime ended in much of the same fashion.

It came down to an airball from the Indiana perimeter to clinch the Dream victory, and send Atlanta into the week break with a perfect record.

The Dream were led by 27 points from Olympian (is it fair to call her an Olympian two years after the games?) Angel McCoughtrywho also grabbed three boards. Leading the universe in rebounds tonight was Sancho Lyttlewho brought down 21 to help Atlanta notch a total of 40. Having a solid game in just her second stint of professional ball was 2014 first rounder (and, like McCoughtry, a University of Louisville product) Shoni Schimmelwho finished with a double-double of 17 points and 10 assists, and a +12 in scoring. Not bad for a rook.

The Dream have started the year off with two impressive wins, and have played a majority of the season with their backs against the wall. But, don’t forget – this team started off 10-1 last year, and at one point, wound up being 17-17. But, for now, they’ll take the 2-0 record to Chicago, where they’ll face the Sky next Saturday.
