Former Georgia Tech quarterback Joe Hamilton is one of the best players in the history of the program, and on Thursday, he was bestowed with an elusive honor that is fitting of his accomplishments. Nearly fifteen years after he finished his career with the Yellow Jackets, Hamilton was elected as a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.

To those who are perhaps too young to remember Hamilton’s exploits, he is best remembered for being the runner-up for the 1999 Heisman Trophy while racking up nearly 4,000 total yards and 35 touchdowns in just 11 games, and during that season, he was also the recipient of the Davey O’Brien award as the nation’s top quarterback. For his career, the now 37-year-old Hamilton accumulated 8,882 passing yards, 1,758 rushing yards and 83 touchdowns while contributing during all four years of eligibility.

In addition to being the 1999 runner-up for the Heisman, Hamilton led the country in passing efficiency (175.0) that season and the diminutive quarterback still lands in the top-5 in ACC history in passing efficiency (148.2), total yards (10,64o) and total touchdowns. With the induction, Joe Hamilton becomes the first quarterback from Georgia Tech to be inducted, and just the 13th player in the history of the program to receive the honor.

Congratulations to a true Georgia Tech legend on a tremendous honor.
