Atlanta Dream fall on the road to Connecticut Sun

The Atlanta Dream fell on the road to the Connecticut Sun 85-76 this afternoon, moving the Dream back to .500 on the still young WNBA season. For the Sun, it was only their second win to this point in the year.

The Dream only lead once, in the first quarter, and after the Sun retook the lead, the closest Atlanta would get is a tie, as they dug a whole too deep to climb out of, and a furious comeback late in the game proved to not be enough.

It was a poor-shooting game for Atlanta, who just shot 36% from the floor, but shot relatively well from three point land, something we haven’t seen in recent games (40%), while shooting a less than average 66.7% from the free throw line. The Sun didn’t shoot that well from the floor (46%) or behind the arc (33.3%) either, but they shot lights out (82%) from the free throw line, which is what helped them stay out of reach.

Again, it was Tiffany Hayes who lead Atlanta in points with 17, while Erika deSouza arguably had the better game, as she wasn’t far behind Hayes with 15 points, and she also grabbed eight rebounds (a team high), dished out an assist and came away with two steals. Sancho Lyttle and Shoni Schimmel (who hasn’t played well of late) also racked up double figures, as Lyttle notched 10 and Schimmel did one better with 11.

For the Sun, it was a pair of ladies who lead the team, as well as all other scorers, in points, as both Kelsey Bone and Renee Montgomery each finished the afternoon with 18. Bone also grabbed 10 rebounds on her way to a double double.

The Dream, who are used to the weekdays off, will play a mid week game at home against the Los Angeles Sparks, that will also air nationally on ESPN2, with tip off set for 7:00.
