Atlanta Braves at Colorado Rockies preview: Can the Braves get hot in Coors?

The Atlanta Braves are in the middle of a three-team race for the lead in the NL East and just put together a pretty convincing win in the series opener against the Colorado Rockis last night.

If they are going to maintain the lead, Mike Minor is going to need to keep an impressive Rockies lineup in the park tonight. He’ll face off against Juan Nicasio.

Nicasio: Nicasio is boasting a pretty lofty ERA (4.68) at the moment, but the first thing we need to do when evaluating a Colorado starter is take a look at the splits. With Nicasio though, there’s really not a ton of difference. His road ERA is 4.67 while his home ERA is 4.69. Within the confines of Coors Field opposing hitters are managing a .277/.329/.510 line and anywhere else it’s .273/.336/.500. So… he’s had a bit of a rough year regardless of where the mound has been located.

Minor: Mike Minor has been having a solid season by all accounts, but he’s also been a bit susceptible to the long ball, which could prove costly against this team and in this park. His HR/FB ratio and HR/9 numbers are both above his career averages at this point, but all of his other numbers seem fine so that could just be some small sample size going to work. But, the Rockies are definitely a threat to go yard, so he’ll need to make sure he misses low when he does.
