Atlanta Braves at Colorado Rockies preview: Series finale in Denver

Update: The Braves have released the lineup for Thursday afternoon and both Evan Gattis and Justin Upton have the day off, leaving an “interesting” batting order.

The Atlanta Braves began their trip to Denver in grand fashion with back-to-back victories, but after a disappointing, 8-2 defeat on Wednesday night, they are still in danger of splitting the series as Thursday afternoon approaches. With that, the Braves and Colorado Rockies are set to get together for the series finale in a mid-day game (local time) and it should be a very interesting match-up.

Atlanta’s offense has varied in consistency during the series, and the bats will face off with Colorado starter Jhoulys Chacin. The 26-year-old right-hander has shown flashes of brilliance throughout his career, but Chacin has struggled to a 5.35 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP in seven starts this season. If he brings his top arsenal, it could be a difficult time for the right hand dominant Braves, but this isn’t exactly a murderous opponent.

On the mound for the Braves is Ervin Santana, who is coming off of an electric start against the Arizona Diamondbacks in his last outing. On Saturday, Santana navigated seven innings with only one run (it was unearned) and despite the fact that the Braves lost that contest, he was incredibly solid. The 31-year-old Santana has been prone to allowing home runs in his career, but if he can keep that under control in the not-so-friendly confines of Coors Field, things will work out just fine.
