Greg Monroe, Pau Gasol reportedly targets for Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks are gearing up for free agency as 12:01 AM on July 1st comes into view, and in addition to rumors swirling about Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James, there are many free agents who could see Atlanta as a potential destination. On Monday evening, two interesting names emerged as potential targets for the Hawks, and they are Detroit Pistons big man Greg Monroe and Los Angeles Lakers big man Pau Gasol.

Both Monroe and Gasol represent big-time names on the market, but the fact that they are both frontcourt players makes this interesting from Atlanta’s perspective. First, the Hawks already employ both Al Horford and Paul Millsap, but in addition to that, the team just spent a first-round pick on Michigan State’s Adreian Payne, and there is no obvious place for either Greg Monroe or Pau Gasol to garner playing time.

The smoking gun to these “rumors” could be that the Hawks simply do not seem to have any front office leaks. At this point in time, any portion of data that emerges from Atlanta should be taken with a grain of salt, and despite the fact that both Monroe and Gasol would be impressive acquisitions, there is a long way to go. Keep it locked with ATL All Day as the situation unfolds.
