The Atlanta Braves continue to mow down the opposition. After an unsightly first inning on Saturday afternoon, the team responded behindAaron Harangand some balanced, potent offense to proceed to a lopsided victory, and in the series finale,Fredi Gonzalezand company will sendAlex Woodto the hill aiming for a tenth consecutive victory.
In his last outing, the 23-year-old Wood had his “worst” performance in quite some time, as he allowed three earned runs to the New York Mets during a win last week. Still, the left-hander was electric at times in route to seven strikeouts in six innings, and Alex Wood is more than capable of silencing a struggling Arizona offense. In addition to that, it is entirely possible that we will see a reduced lineup from Arizona as they play an afternoon game for the second consecutive day, and that could allow for a feast from Wood.
The Diamondbacks will send 27-year-old left-handerWade Mileyto the hill, and he has been battered by the Braves in four career appearances. In those four outings (three starts), Miley has suffered to a 7.64 ERA in 17.2 innings, and while he is a significantly better pitcher than that (3.76 career ERA), it will be interesting to see how he responds to a suddenly hot Atlanta lineup.
