Miami Marlins at Atlanta Braves preview: Mike Minor day

The Atlanta Braves dropped the series opener against the Miami Marlins on Monday evening (in extra innings, no less), but they’ll have an opportunity to even the four-game set just 24 hours later. In the second game, Fredi Gonzalez and company will send Mike Minor to the hill, and the left-hander will be looking to improve on his woeful numbers this season.

The 26-year-old Minor has struggled to a 4.86 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP this season, and while the advanced metrics indicate that the left-hander has been noticeably unlucky, the heat is on at this point. Miami’s offense is nothing to write home about, but Minor allowed 6 earned runs in Chicago in his last start, and the long All-Star hiatus could do wonders for his confidence, while simultaneously allowing him a mental reset.

In opposition, the Marlins will send 23-year-old right-hander Jacob Turner to the mound. Turner has been a disaster this season, posting a 6.22 ERA and 1.62 WHIP this season, and while he has the pedigree of a top prospect, the results haven’t followed. Atlanta’s bats went silent on Monday, but this is a nice spot to jumpstart the offense.
