Throughout the 2014 off-season, there have been rumblings of a contract extension for long-time Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White. Now, those rumblings have progressed into full-fledged action, as the team has confirmed that the two sides have agreed to a four-year contract extension.

While numbers are not available at this time, the biggest story here is that the deal virtually assures that White will be in an Atlanta uniform for the duration of his career (or at least close to it). The veteran receiver turns 33 years old during the 2014 campaign, and while he is still quite productive, Roddy White is certainly on the back side of what has been a very nice career to this point.
In 2013, the former UAB star battled injuries on the way to 63 receptions and 711 yards, but prior to that, White posted six straight years with 80+ catches and 1,100+ yards, and he has been the model of consistency after some bumpy terrain in his early years. The duo of Roddy White and Julio Jones represents perhaps the most dynamic set of wide receivers in the game, and Falcons fans can take solace in keeping that crew together for the foreseeable future.
Only the contract details will determine if this is a “wise” choice for the Atlanta Falcons, but as long as the numbers are semi-reasonable, the deal makes a ton of sense, simply to keep Roddy in Flowery Branch for the duration.
