Braves drop second in a row to Dodgers in extras as Matt Kemp continues to torch Atlanta

The struggles continued last night for the Atlanta Braves as they took on the Los Angeles Dodgers for the second time in two nights… and lost for the second time in two nights.

This one was particularly disappointing because the team was in it throughout the entire game, until David Hale gave up a walk off hit to the unlikeliest of players: Matt Kemp. With Kemp’s RBI single in the 10th inning, LA capped off a 3-2 victory and clinched the series.

If we actually look at what Kemp’s done to the Braves however, it’s almost like he isn’t the guy that’s been worth half a win this season. In this one, Kemp went 3-4 with a homer and the walk off hit, and last night Kemp also thought it was 2011 as he went 3-4 with a pair of home runs.

I feel like I should be a bit happy for Kemp’s resurgence, but then I remember that he plays for the Dodgers and I like the Braves and that he’s perfectly fine because he’s signed through 2019 on a $160 million deal and that he’ll be ok regardless.

In better news, Alex Wood had an extremely good outing. He tossed seven innings and allowed just one run while striking out eight Los Angeles batters and walking two. He’s been exceptional for the team this year and it seems like a waste not to pick up a win after an effort like that. But, we know the offense is far from spectacular and when your bullpen isn’t shutting things down either, it can be pretty tough.

On to the next one.
