Atlanta Braves vs. Los Angeles Dodgers: Julio Teheran vs. Kevin Correia

facebooktwitterreddit

After taking two of three from the Washington Nationals, the Atlanta Braves shift their focus to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a four-game series that starts today. After being swept by the Dodgers on their miserable road trip just a week ago, the team should be hungry for a little bit of revenge.

Fortunately for Braves fans, game one features a pretty favorable matchup.

The Pitching Match-up:

Staff “ace” Julio Teheran is on the mound for the Braves today, and that means the offense will have the benefit of a guy with a 2.92 ERA, 3.49 FIP and 3.56 xFIP going to work for them. Teheran is striking out 8.04 batters per nine and walking just 1.98 per nine while allowing opposing hitters a .226 average. But, Teheran is coming off of one of his worst outings of the season. He gave up six runs (two homers) to the Seattle Mariners over six innings of work and will need to avoid another start like that in order to give the Braves a shot.

Kevin Correia will be on the mound opposing Teheran, and that makes this as close to a must-win game as there is. With all the top arms the Dodgers have in the rotation, it’s good when the Braves best pitcher is matched up against a guy who’s looking at a 4.94 ERA, 4.35 FIP and 4.85 xFIP. Correia is striking out just 4.24 batters per nine (that’s terrible) and walking 2.23 per nine while allowing a .293 opposing batting average. If you missed the news, Correia was recently traded to the Dodgers for cash OR a player to be named later. Poor guy.

The Predictions:

Last night, Brad and myself both went with Alex Wood and it paid off for us. Brad’s finally gotten back to .500 while I’m steadily kicking his butt throughout this entire contest.

  • Carlos: 6-4
  • Brad: 5-5

Today, the choice is obvious for both of us. Teheran is a really good pitcher and Correia has been really not good. That’s about as deep as this pick goes for both of us.
