Roddy White questionable; Jake Matthews to play Thursday

Both Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White and left tackle Jake Matthews have been injury concerns in leading up to Thursday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fortunately, the Falcons have received relatively positive word on both players as of Wednesday afternoon.

The news was mixed surrounding White’s availability on Tuesday, but after he was absent from practice again on Wednesday, a “questionable” listing is actually a favorable result. In the case of Matthews, his return could be crucial in strengthening the left side of Atlanta’s offensive line, as he is already displaying star-level qualities at the most important position.

Another big question is what the Falcons intend to do if Matthews is indeed available, as Lamar Holmes has regularly come under fire for his spotty play. However, ESPN’s Vaughn McClure indicates that the team will likely deploy Holmes, and not Gabe Carimi, as the other starting tackle alongside Matthews.

It wouldn’t be a shock to see Roddy White on the sidelines, but he has a track record of showing up even when less than 100%, and with Jake Matthews seemingly in the lineup, the offense could be at full strength at kick-off on Thursday. Stay tuned for full coverage throughout the week.
