Matt Ryan (again) named NFC Offensive Player of the Week

The Atlanta Falcons were busy on Thursday night, and in addition to Devin Hester taking home the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week award following his punt return touchdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Matt Ryan has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week.

Ryan did not rank among the top five quarterbacks in the NFL in terms of passing yardage in Week 3, but aside from that, his profile was relatively flawless against Tampa Bay. Atlanta’s signal-caller completed 21 of his 24 pass attempts (87.5%) for 286 yards and 3 touchdowns, and he did not issue an interception on the way to a 99.7 QBR and a 155.9 quarterback rating for the day.

Both the QBR and quarterback rating marks served as the highest in the NFL for Week 3, and if it wasn’t for an early exit and a monumental lead, Matt Ryan could have easily surpassed some of his career bests against a Tampa Bay defense that had visibly quit. Regardless, Ryan has been a revelation in two of the three games this season (including a Week 1 effort that netted him this same award), and it will interesting to see how he and the offense fare against the Vikings in what could be a hostile environment.

At any rate, this is a well-deserved honor.
