The Atlanta Hawks are back in action!

Mike Budenholzer and company have completed a “mini-camp” in Athens, and with the Calendar showing October, it is time for the team to begin their preseason schedule. On Monday evening, the Hawks will host the New Orleans Pelicans at Philips Arena (in front of what will surely be dozens of fans), and one of the league’s “main attractions” will be in town in the form of Pelicans big man Anthony Davis.

Obviously, there is little in the way of analysis needed for the first preseason game of the season, but Atlanta will be without the services of Al Horford (still recovering from surgery), Kent Bazemore (also still healing) and Pero Antic (broken nose) for this game. In addition, Hawks forward DeMarre Carroll suffered an ankle sprain during practice last week, and as a result, his status for Monday’s tilt is unknown at this point.

The NBA preseason is simply an opportunity to get a look at some basketball prior to the “real” season’s start, and in the case of the Atlanta Hawks, there really isn’t a position battle or roster situation to monitor closely. Still, it will be nice to see the team back in action, and when Al Horford takes the floor sometime this preseason, that will be exceedingly noteworthy.
