Georgia Bulldogs remain perfect at home with win over Florida Atlantic

The Georgia Bulldogs took the Stegman Coliseum for a Sunday matinee against the Florida Atlantic Owls of Conference USA, and finished the day undefeated at home, as a double-double from Marcus Thorton lead the Dawgs to a 74-61 win.

The floor stats for the two teams appear to be more even than you might think, as both Georgia and FAU shot 25% from three-point range, and the Dawgs shot nearly 46% from the floor and 66.7% from the free throw line (compared to 41% and 60% from the Owls).

The Owls proved they could run with the big Dawgs (er, at least, an SEC team the caliber of Georgia) as four of the five starters scored in double figures, lead by Marquan Botley with 20 points (which lead all scorers), five boards and six assists. Jackson Trapp finished the day with 15, and Kelvin Penn and Justin Massey finished with 11.

Thornton led the way for UGA with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while also recording five blocks. Kenny Gaines was the only other Dawg to score double figures (15) and Nemanja Djurisic was the only other to finish in double figures with boards (10).

If Georgia was hoping for a good tuneup for their next game, FAU certainly didn’t provide it, as they head up to Madison Square Garden to take on the #13 (and super duper good) Gonzaga Bulldogs in the Preseason NIT on Wednesday.
