Atlanta Hawks’ streak ends on Orlando Magic buzzer-beater

The Atlanta Hawks went into their game with the Orlando Magic riding a nine-game winning streak–playing some of the best basketball in the league.

But against the Magic, the streak was forced to come to and end thanks to a last-second shot from Tobias Harris at the buzzer, to give the Magic a 100-99 victory.

In the loss, the Hawks allowed the Magic to shoot at extremely good rates. Orlando was 50 percent from the field (37-74) and 47.6 percent from behind the 3-point line (10-21). The aforementioned Harris led the Magic with 20 points on the night, shooting 7-for-16 from the field and making six of his ten free throw attempts. He did miss all three of his 3-point shots, but the Magic certainly weren’t going to complain about Harris’ effort after the game.

Jeff Teague led both teams in scoring with 24 points, but a lack of efficiency really hurt Atlanta–especially from behind the 3-point line. After a few poor individual performances from deep, the Hawks wound up shooting 29.6 percent from 3. Paul Millsap went 0-3, Dennis Schroder went 0-3, DeMarre Carroll shot 1-5 and Kyle Korver shot 1-4.

Missing that many 3’s isn’t exactly indicative of success in the league.

Still, losing this game doesn’t come as too much of a disappointment, simply given the team’s recent success. At the same time, this was (obviously) a winnable game, and it’s tough to see the team end the streak in the way they did.
