Julio Teheran‘s road woes continue as the Atlanta Braves fall 7-3 to the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday night.  Teheran lasted on four innings after giving up two multi-run homers to RF Chris Davis, a three-run shot in the first and a two-run blast in the second.

You could blame tonight’s game on the very tight strike zone of home plate umpire Scott Barry but you can’t groove it down the middle of the plate to Chris Davis and expect to get away with it.  Atlanta has lost the first two games in their rare three-game set with the Baltimore Orioles.

  • I hate how you can tell right away in the first inning if Julio Teheran is Jekyll or Hyde in a particular ball game, being mostly Hyde on the road.  He threw 92 pitches in four innings of work, a far cry from his last start at home against the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Can we alter the starting rotation a bit so that Julio Teheran only pitches at home for the Atlanta Braves the rest of the season?  His road ERA must stand well over 7.00 now, 6.95 entering tonight’s contest.

Offensively the Atlanta Braves had a strong first inning with a two-run blast off the bat of 1B Freddie Freeman, scoring Nick Markakis.  It was Freddie’s 13th homer on the season.  Before he suffered his wrist injury at Citi Field against the New York Mets, I thought he could hit 30 this season.  Here’s to him accomplishing that next year.

Markakis continues to have a strong series against his former team.  Nick went 2-5 with a run scored, bringing his average ever closer to .300 (.290 entering play tomorrow).  His former Manager Buck Showalter might have been a little off saying that Nick Markakis would have 9 hits for the Atlanta Braves in this three game series, but Nick is seeing the baseball very well at the moment for his new team.  I hope he continues to swing a hot bat into this weekend’s series against the lowly Philadelphia Phillies.

Jonny Gomes had two hits tonight and Jace Peterson had a nice RBI single in the top of the 8th to at least make things almost interesting heading into the 9th inning.  But Chris Davis’ two-run homer off Julio Teheran in the second was the nail in the coffin for an Atlanta Braves team whose offense went to sleep innings 2-7, recording no hits during those six innings.

Here’s to hoping the Atlanta Braves can salvage a win in Baltimore tomorrow so that a road sweep doesn’t happen.  Let’s go Mike Foltynewicz!  Go beat Chris Tillman!  Go Braves!
