This offseason, Dennis Schroder has been hard at work to get ready for the upcoming season, but in the meantime is playing with the German National Basketball Team in the 2015 Eurobasket tournament. In his first game in the tournament, Dennis Schroder scored 15 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 4 assists in Germany’s victory over Iceland. • In Sunday’s 68-66 defeat to Serbia, Dennis Schroder scored 11 points to go along with 6 rebounds for Germany. In his 29 minutes in the game, Schroder went 0-2 from beyond the arc and 4 for 11 from the field to go along with 1 steal and four turnovers.

Dennis Schroder’s first game in the tournament displayed impressive numbers, but in the second game his inconsistencies manifested themselves. Schroder is a promising and dynamic guard with a high NBA ceiling, but the main knock on his game has been his predilection for inconsistency and erratic play.

Being a part of the German National Team during the Eurobasket is a great opportunity for Schroder’s continued development, as he has the chance to lead his own team at the point guard position while learning from a future NBA Hall of Famer in Dirk Nowitzki. As a member of the Hawks, Schroder sits behind Jeff Teague on the depth chart, which does not give Dennis Schroder the opportunity to often lead a team at the position. This tournament will enable Schroder to develop his leadership skills going forward.

Another reason why the Eurobasket tournament is a great for Dennis Schroder is that it provides the player with staunch competition during the offseason. Many players take time off after the NBA season has ended, or only choose to work out in a gym. Playing for the German National Team during Eurobasket gives Dennis Schroder increased exposure to competition during a time of year when other players do not have a similar opportunity.

This season looks to be a breakout campaign for the Atlanta Hawks’ young guard. Playing for Germany during Eurobasket will definitely assist in his development as a key player in the Hawks’ rotation.
