Atlanta Braves Beat Phillies 8-1, Win First Road Series Since July
The Atlanta Braves were victorious on Wednesday night, defeating the Philadelphia Phillies by a final score of 8-1.
The Atlanta Braves did something tonight that they have not done since early July, win a series on the road. The last road series in which they won was July 6-8 against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park. At point of the season, the Braves were 42-42 and only 4.5 games out of first place in the NL East. Wednesday’s contest was an offensive breakout game by the Braves — something that has been few and far between recently.

In the top of the 4th inning, the oft maligned Christian Bethancourt showed some signs of offensive progress at the plate, launching a solo shot to give the Atlanta Braves a 2-1 lead. The only trouble Julio Teheran had in this game was in the bottom of the 7th inning. With a high pitch count, Teheran loaded the bases. After missing on 5 consecutive pitches, Teheran struck out Andres Blanco, stranding 3 Phillies runners and ending the inning unscathed.
Michael Bourn had his best game since his return to the Atlanta Braves last month. Bourn recorded 4 hits and 2 RBI’s, including a 2-run triple in the bottom of the 8th inning to give the Braves an 8-1 lead. You know Shelby Miller is hoping for a similar offensive outburst tomorrow as he attempts to snap his 20 game winless streak.
Five Atlanta Braves players had multi-hit games tonight: Nick Markakis, Hector Olivera, Michael Bourn, Freddie Freeman and Christian Bethancourt. Bourn, Olivera and Bethancourt had 3-hit games. In all, tonight’s match between the Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies is something that Braves fans have had to chance to see much of recently, Timely hitting, excellent pitching and good bullpen work made for one of the best games I’ve seen in weeks.
The Atlanta Braves return to the friendly confines of Turner Field tomorrow to face the NL East leading New York Mets. Shelby Miller will try to end his 2o game winless streak as he is opposed by veteran RHP Bartolo Colon. It’s always good to beat the Mets in September, so let’s hope the Atlanta Braves can keep their good play over the last 3 games going against New York.
