The Atlanta Braves were victorious against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night at Turner Field, coming from behind in the 8th inning to defeat their NL East Rival by a final score of 2-1. The Braves are in the midst of a two game winning streak at the moment — are rarity in the second half of the 2015 season.

The Atlanta Braves had only won 4 games when trailing after the 7th inning before Saturday’s game. The Philadelphia Phillies struck first on Saturday night against the Braves, as Phillies’ third-baseman Cody Asche grounded into a double play, scoring Brian Bogusevic, giving the Phillies a 1-0 lead.

With the Phillies owning a slim lead going into the bottom of the 8th inning, it seemed unlikely that the Atlanta Braves would break through. Following a leadoff single by Nick Markakis and a walk to Hector Olivera by Phillies’ reliever Jerome Williams,  Braves’ first-baseman Freddie Freeman  had another opportunity to torment Philadelphia pitching. In 2015, Freeman has hit .339 against Philadelphia.

Freeman ripped a double into deep left-field, scoring Markakis and pinch-runner Pedro Ciriaco, giving the Atlanta Braves a 2-1 lead that they would not relinquish. Arodys Vizcaino pitched a scoreless 9th inning to get his sixth save of the 2015 season.

Saturday’s game was one of the rare contests this season where we saw the Atlanta Braves rally late in a game to secure a victory. Freddie Freeman’s clutch hitting in the 8th inning showed us a reason to still root for the Atlanta Braves with 2 weeks left to go in a lost and disappointing season.

Rookie pitcher Ryan Weber made his third start of the season on Saturday, and pitched very well. Weber went 7.0 while only allowing 1 earned run on two Phillies’ hits. So far, Weber has a 3.26 ERA through his first three games at the big league level — not too bad for a player who was pitching in AAA less than a month ago.

Edwin Jackson was the winning pitcher for the Atlanta Braves on Saturday, pitching a scoreless 8th inning. The Atlanta Braves will go for the sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies’ in the rubber game of the series tomorrow, as Julio Teheran toes the rubber for the Bravos. He will be opposed by Phillies’ rookie Aaron Nola, who has pitched well so far in the majors — showing the potential of the Phillies’ youth movement. Tonight was a memorable win for the club that will not soon be forgotten. Go Braves!
