The Atlanta Hawks have added C Earl Barron to their Training Camp roster, Yahoo’s Marc J. Spears reports.

The 34-year-old Earl Barron went undrafted out of the University of Memphis in 2003, and has spent time playing overseas during his career. Barron does not have a lot of NBA experience under his belt, as he saw his most extensive playing time come in 2008 with the Miami Heat, appearing in 46 games.

During the 2014-2015 season, Earl Barron played 16 games with the Phoenix Suns while also spending some time in the D-League with the Bakersfield Jam. Last year, Barron averaged 2.0 points and 1.8 rebounds in 8.9 minutes per game. For his career, Earl Barron has averaged 4.86 points per game and 3.5 rebounds per game.

Following Jason Richardson‘s announcement to retire this past Wednesday, it doesn’t surprise me that the Atlanta Hawks have decided to add another player to their training camp roster. The 34-year-old Barron may be able to provide some veteran savvy, at least during training camp.

As it stands right now, Earl Barron is probably an outside shot to make the Atlanta Hawks’ roster out of training camp do to his age and the competition around him for the final roster spot. Still though, you can’t teach height, and Earl Barron could be a situational player for Mike Budenholzer at the end of the bench that could be used to add size to a lineup.

The addition of Earl Barron to the Atlanta Hawks’ Training Camp roster brings the team’s number of players up to 19 with only one roster spot currently available. Lamar Patterson, Edgar Sosa, Terran Petteway, DeQuan Jones and Jon Horford constitute the rest of the non-roster invitees to the Atlanta Hawks training camp.

Lamar Patterson and Terran Petteway figure to have the best track at securing the final roster spot on the Atlanta Hawks for the upcoming season. Edgar Sosa could also have a decent shot at roster spot if Patterson and Petteway’s inconsistencies continue during Training Camp, and Sosa can continue shoot at the 45.5. percent clip from three-point range that he displayed this past summer during the FIBA Americas tournament.

However training camp turns out for these players, the positional battles for the final roster spot portends to be at the very least interesting. The Atlanta Hawks begin Training Camp on September 29th at the University of Georgia.Â
