The Atlanta Braves entered this weekend’s series against the Miami Marlins 6-0 at Marlins Park and left 6-3 in Miami in 2015 as the Bravos were swept by the Fish, losing by a final score of 9-5.

Shelby Miller‘s winless streak continued in his penultimate start of the season, going 5.1 innings while allowing 7 earned runs on 7 hits. This was arguably Miller’s worst start of the season, and clearly showed signs of fatigue throughout the game. Miller has now pitched 197.1 innings in 2015 after Sunday’s game — the most of his career. Shelby Miller is now winless in 24 consecutive starts.

The Marlins offense got out to an early lead, as Braves killer Justin Bour hit a 2-run shot off of Shelby Miller in the bottom of the first inning, scoring Martin Prado and giving the Fish a 2-0 lead. The Atlanta Braves would tie the contest in the top of the 2nd inning, as the suddenly red hot Michael Bourn hit a two run single up the middle off of Tom Koehler, scoring A.J. Pierzynski and Jace Peterson to knotting the contest at 2-2 and giving Shelby Miller new life.

The Marlins would regain the lead in the bottom of the 3rd, as Martin Prado singled home Christian Yelich, making the score 3-2 in favor of Miami. The Braves would tie the game once again in the top of the 5th when Cameron Maybin hit an RBI single to score Hector Olivera.

The Marlins would reclaim the lead again in the top of the 5th inning and not relinquish it. Martin Prado hit another RBI single off of Shelby Miller, scoring Miguel Rojas and Dee Gordon, putting the Fish up 5-3. In what would prove to be the last inning for Shelby Miller in the bottom of the 6th, Marlins’ catcher J.T. Realmuto hit an RBI double, scoring Marcell Ozuna. Realmuto would score on a Hector Olivera error later in the inning, making the score 7-3 Marlins.

Cameron Maybin drew the Atlanta Braves closer in the 7th, driving home Nick Markakis to make the score 7-4. Justin Bour and Marcell Ozuna hit back to back solo shots in the 7th inning, making the score 9-5. Nick Swisher added a solo homer in the 8th but it wasn’t enough for the Atlanta Braves to over come the Marlin’s 9-5 lead.

With the road portion of the Atlanta Braves schedule now over, the club heads back to Turner Field for their penultimate series of the season against the Washinton Nationals. The Nationals have been eliminated from playoff contention, so this series should be a good chance for the club to win for some pride at the end of a long and disappointing campaign.
