On Tuesday, June 7, the Atlanta Falcons not only released defensive end Josh Dawson, but also signed Nordly Capi and Michael Huey. What does the addition of Capi and Huey mean for the Falcons?

After recently passing on both Brandon Boykin and Dwight Freeney, the Atlanta Falcons have decided to sign defensive end Nordly Capi and guard Michael Huey. They also released defensive end Josh Dawson.

The Falcons’ decision to sign Capi and Huey poses a couple of questions for Falcons fans:

  • Ultimately, what does the addition of Capi and Huey mean for the Falcons, if anything?
  • Will they see any playing time this season, or is this another example of head coach

    Dan Quinn

    adding more depth to positions?

"The Atlanta Falcons have signed defensive end Nordly Capi and guard Michael Huey. The Falcons also waived defensive end Josh Dawson.Capi, 6-3, 249 pounds was originally signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as a college free agent following the 2015 NFL Draft. He spent part of the 2015 season as a member of the Baltimore Ravens practice squad.Huey, 6-4, 317 pounds, was originally signed by the Seattle Seahawks in 2011. He also spent time with the Chargers and Redskins. Huey played for the Arizona Rattlers in the Arena Football League and was a three-time AFL champion and was three-time All-Arena League.Dawson was signed as a college free agent following the 2016 NFL Draft. With the addition of these two players the Falcons roster now stands at 89-men, and the team currently has 16 offensive linemen."

The Atlanta Falcons signing Capi and Huey appears to be nothing more than an attempt to further strengthen both lines of scrimmage, which has been Quinn‘s main goal this offseason. Defensive end and guard are two positions the Falcons don’t necessarily need more of.

As for Dawson, the Falcons must have seen more potential in an open roster spot than in him.
