Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs Pittsburgh Panthers: Preview and Prediction

After two back-to-back losses at home, are the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets ready for the challenge of taking on the Pittsburgh Panthers on the road?

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are currently 3-2 after suffering two losses at home against the Clemson Tigers and Miami Hurricanes. Last weekend, the Yellow Jackets were again unable to overcome Mark Richt, this time as the head coach of the Miami Hurricanes.

Last Saturday, it was turnovers by Georgia Tech quarterback Justin Thomas that cost the Yellow Jackets a win with a total of three turnovers. They controlled a lot of the action during the game, but two turnovers, which occurred in less than a minute in the second quarter, gave the Hurricanes a 21-point lead from with they never recovered. Now, their four home game streak has come to an end as the Yellow Jackets head to Pennsylvania to take on the Pittsburgh Panthers.

GT vs Pitt: A Look at the Matchup

Last season, it was the Panthers who came out on top  over the Yellow Jackets with a 31-28 win. Georgia Tech won the previous two straight games in the series prior to that. The Panthers are also currently 3-2, with victories over Villanova, Penn State, and Marshall. Their two losses come from Oklahoma State and North Carolina, both of which were fairly close. Their three wins also all took place at home…where they will be for this matchup. Are the Yellow Jackets potentially looking at another loss?

Georgia Tech’s defense has played well so far this season, but the trouble for the Yellow Jackets comes on offense. If Tech plans to end its losing streak this week, Justin Thomas must get back on track. One factor that has worked in the Yellow Jacket’s favor is the success of freshman running back Dedrick Mills, who scored three touchdowns against Miami. This season, he’s totaled 67 carried for 300 yards and seven touchdowns. His services will be imperative this week against the Panthers.

There’s no denying that the Panthers will have the advantage on offense. Last week, Pittsburgh shut down Marshall with a 43-27 victory. Panthers quarterback Nate Peterman had a season-high 280 passing yards and two scores in that game. Will the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets be able to score enough to cover his efforts?

This should be a close game into the fourth, at which point Peterman, James Conner and the Pitt offense will impose their will on the Georgia Tech defense and pull away.Pitt vs. Georgia Tech Score Prediction: Pitt 33, Georgia Tech 24"
