Jordan Schafer is headed to the 15-day DL with his ankle problems.

I can’t believe I am typing this, but the loss of Schafer is painful. I was firmly in the NO JORDAN SCHAFER camp in Spring Training, but he has proven myself and all the haters wrong by having an excellent season to this point. Jordan is hitting .312/.399/.464/.863 and leads the Braves with 9 stolen bases. It has been an unexpected resurgence for a guy that a few seasons ago was considered the Braves top prospect but released by the Astros this past off-season.

Joey Terdoslavich has been called up from AAA Gwinnett to take Schafer’s place, and will be in uniform #25 to make his major league debut tonight in Atlanta.

Terdo is having a hell of a year at Gwinnett so far, hitting .318/.359/.567/.926, with 24 doubles, 18 HR and 58 RBI. With Schafer, Gattis and Pena on the DL, Joey will immediately become the Braves best bench bat.

Terdoslavich is 24 years old, and was a 6th round choice of the Braves in the 2010 amateur draft. Joey is a switch hitter and he has played both of the corner outfield and infield spots in the minors. He had been selected to play in the Futures Game, but will obviously not participate if he is still with the big club at that time.
