Let the Alex Wood era begin!
Today the Braves placed lefty starter Paul Maholm on the 15 Day DL with what they are calling a “left wrist contusion”. I call it getting Jurrjens’d as Maholm may have made his last start in a Braves uniform.
Alex Wood has been called up from Gwinnett to take Maholm’s place in the rotation, and will start against the Mets on Thursday.
Most of us had seen this scenario playing out in one form or another for weeks now. I certainly didn’t wish for Maholm to get injured, but Wood replacing either Maholm or Medlen in the rotation was just a matter of time. The injury to Maholm just bought Medlen some extra time before Brandon Beachy eventually takes his place in the rotation.
