Today on twitter, Mike Muscala announced that he was signing with Spain team, Blusens Monbus Obradoiro:
This signing does not come as much of a surprise as the Hawks have been extremely active in signing NBA players to fill out there front court. Muscala will be playing under head coach Fernandez Moncho. The current starters on the team, according to eurobasket.com website, are Benjamin Dewar (1), Pavel Pumprla (2), Alberto Corbacho (3), Levon Kendall (4), and Mario Delas (5).
If you are fluent in Spanish you can also check out the team’s official announcement of the Muscala signing here.
This move means that Muscala will continue his development by getting more minutes with Obradoiro. Given how the roster is shaping up for the Hawks, Muscala would have received little to no playing time and it was best for the team and Muscala to sign in Spain.
It will be interesting to see whether the Hawks first selection of the 2013 NBA Draft, Lucas Nogueira, goes back to Spain to continue his development as well. The folks over at Peach Tree Hoops think this is the likely scenario and I have to agree with them. Per PTH:
"No plans have been announced for first round pick Lucas Nogueira who could also return to Spain for another season in an effort to get more meaningful time on the court. The many new additions to the frontcourt make it likely that Nogueira will also be headed back overseas next season."
With the amount of front court players with NBA experience, Nogueira’s size, and the fact that the Hawks aren’t going to be in contention for an NBA championship it makes no sense at all to bring him to Atlanta next season. Hopefully we get some news about where he will be playing in the coming days.
