Paul Maholm made a rehab start on Saturday for the Rome Braves and all went as planned. Maholm pitched 5.2 innings of one run ball, giving up 4 hits and striking out 6 while walking no one.
"“Everything felt good,” said Maholm, on the disabled list recovering from a sprained and bruised left wrist. “I got plenty of ground balls. It’s a little different throwing to A-ball guys, but it was good just to get on the mound and be out there in competition.” – AJC"
Before exiting the rotation with injury, Maholm had been up-and-down throughout the 2013 season. For the full year, the 31-year-old has a 4.41 ERA (4.20 FIP) in 118.1 innings, but in the month of July (that covered his final 3 starts), he scuffled to a 10.13 ERA in 13.1 innings.
Now the question is, will he make another rehab start? What happens when he comes back up to the Braves rotation? Six-man rotation is looking more and more likely in my opinion.
