The Braves have claimed Royals utility man Elliot Johnson off the waiver wire today.
I’m not really sure what the purpose of this move is, but I guess its for depth more than anything. He is a pretty decent fielder at 2B, but I can’t see him being better there than Janish. He can’t hit much at all. He is a career .212/.267/.313/.580 hitter in 704 major league plate appearances between Tampa Bay and Kansas City. Seems like a pretty redundant player to what we have right now in Janish and Gosselin.
Johnson will wear #30 and will join the club tomorrow in St. Louis. I assume that Phillip Gosselin will be sent back down to Gwinnett to make room for Johnson.
This is probably the most unexciting move of all time.
