Wednesday was a bit of a cult holiday for diehard college football fans in the South. While it may seem insane to focus on 2014 when the 2013 season hasn’t begun yet, the SEC officially announced its full 2014 schedules, and now it is time to overreact about each and every team!
In the case of the University of Georgia, there are very little surprises. The home-and-home with Clemson returns for the season opener, and it’ll be two consecutive seasons with the gauntlet of the two top schools in South Carolina. However, there are also notable absences on the schedule that have already caused controversy.
Alabama is off the schedule yet again, and the drought of regular-season games against the Tide now extends for six consecutive seasons. The last time Alabama visited Athens was 2008, and with vocal coaches like South Carolina’s Steve Spurrier screaming from the mountain tops about Georgia’s “easy” conference schedules, the controversy isn’t going away.
In addition, the Bulldogs avoid both LSU and Texas A&M in 2014, lining things up for success even in the wake of Aaron Murray’s departure after the 2013 season. It is obviously too early to project the quality of every SEC team in 2014, but it is safe to assume that the Alabama/LSU/Texas A&M trio will be strong, and it benefits UGA to miss them.
Here is a copy of the full schedule for 2014:
