In a high-scoring affair, a place-kicker can be extremely valuable, but according to a report from ESPN, the Georgia Bulldogs will be without their only scholarship kicker when they take field against Clemson tonight.

ESPN is reporting that a “source close to the team” indicates that sophomore kicker Marshall Morgan has been suspended for the game following an off-season arrest. This doesn’t actually come as a surprise, as Morgan had been rumored to be suspended for a while now, but this is the first semi-official indication that he’ll miss the game.

We actually mentioned this possibility briefly during our UGA preview, but the backup kicker is listed as junior Adam Erickson. I would expect him to get the first crack on Saturday night, and there should be many extra points (if not field goals) to attempt against a porous Clemson defense.

Last season, Morgan converted 8 field goals and 63 extra points, and while his absence won’t be a high-profile one, it could have a major impact on the proceedings in the opener.
