In addition to the loss of a big-time football game on Saturday night, the Georgia Bulldogs have apparently lost one of their most dynamic offensive players for the rest of the season.

There were suspicions of the fact that Malcolm Mitchell had torn his ACL during a touchdown celebration (no, really) on Saturday, but head coach Mark Richt’s announcement on Sunday confirmed the devastation.

Despite another injury during the 2012 season, Mitchell managed to grab 40 receptions for 572 yards and 4 touchdowns. He was the second-leading receiver last season, and there was real belief that Mitchell would lead the team’s wide receiver arsenal this year.

On the semi-bright side, Mitchell has a year of eligibility remaining, and because the injury took place this early in the season, he should be returning sometime during 2014. However, Georgia is now slightly short-handed at receiver for the remainder of this year, and with South Carolina coming to Athens on Saturday, it’ll be a quick learning curve for the young guys. The way that Mitchell suffered the injury is sure to garner the headlines, but you have to feel for the young man in this. Here’s to a speedy recovery.
