According to a report from the National Football Post, the Falcons appear to be looking for wide receiver depth.

Roddy White is banged up by all accounts, and with the Falcons employing only three wide receivers with any real NFL experience (Julio Jones and Harry Douglas being the others), this potential move makes some sense. The report indicates that former UGA receiver Mohamed Massaquoi, Courtney Roby, and Lavelle Hawkins make up the group of receivers that were tried out on Tuesday, and each provides a different skillset.

Massaquoi is the best-known of the three thanks to his local ties, and he also has the best statistical resume. He has over 1,700 receiving yards in his career and a strong pedigree as a 2nd-round pick, but there have been legitimate issues with drops throughout his career, highlighted with his time in Cleveland.

As for Roby and Hawkins, neither guy is terribly impressive, but both guys have been legitimate NFL receivers. Personally, I’m a Hawkins fan dating back to his time at Cal-Berkeley, and he’s the guy I would like to see signed if any of the three become options.

There is no guarantee that any of these guys will be offered a gig even at any point in the future, but it’s worth noting that each of them could be viewed as a step up from the Drew Davis-Kevin Cone duo as far as pass-catching is concerned. Stay tuned for any updates as they become available.
