Baseball America released their list of the Braves Top 10 prospects today.  Here is their list:

  1. Lucas Sims
  2. Christian Bethancourt
  3. J.R. Graham
  4. Jason Hursh
  5. Mauricio Cabrera
  6. Jose Peraza
  7. David Hale
  8. Victor Caratini
  9. Tommy La Stella
  10. Sean Gilmartin

I don’t really have too many issues with this list.  Sims and Bethancourt are the clear 1 & 2 in any list you want to make.  You could switch them if you wanted, but they are the best two Braves prospects hands down.

I would probably put La Stella a couple of spots higher, but I can understand why they have him where he is. Tommy right now only has one tool that would be considered above average at the major league level, but he is really really good at that one tool and is working on the others.  I guess its kind of hard to rank someone higher than that until he can show some improvements in his other tools. I think Hale might have moved up a bit higher than he should be, but that is probably due to how effective he was in his innings with the big club last season. I am wondering what the Braves will do with him in 2014?  Take over the Cristhian Marinez long man role in the pen?  Be a starter in the minors? That’s something to monitor.

Overall, it is a good list. Baseball America has been doing this for a long long time and they know what they are talking about most of the time. They ranked the Braves farm system right now as the 10th best according to big league ready talent.
