Update: O’Brien is now reporting that Venters’ 2013 salary of $1.625 million will be duplicated in 2014.
Moments ago, it was reported by David O’Brien of the AJC that the Braves were bringing lefty reliever Jonny Venters back to Atlanta for another season.
I’ll give my opinion on this move after the money is disclosed, but personally, I do like Jonny Venters and hope he can make a come back from his second Tommy John surgery this past season. The arbitration estimates were about $1.6MM for Venters, so it will definitely be less than that. How much less is still uncertain.
Venters has been one of the best relievers period in baseball over the last couple of seasons and if healthy, he could make a big difference and will be a welcome addition to the Braves already stellar pen. Now, I am curious to see what the Braves will do about Eric O’Flaherty.
I will update this post as more information about the deal comes out.
