Arizona Fall League & Dominican Winter League Recaps: 11/14
By Eric Graff
Arizona Fall League
Light day for the Braves in AFL action. Here are the lines:
- Elmer Reyes – 0-4, K, GIDP
- Aaron Northcraft – 4 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Aaron Northcraft made his seventh and final start of the AFL season yesterday, and while it wasn’t really very good, it was decent compared to the rest of his starts. It was his longest start at 4 innings, and he tied his AFL high for the most strikeouts with 4. He also gave up a couple of runs and walked some more batters. He has walked a total of 15 guys in 18 innings, which is frankly underwhelming.
Northcraft finishes the season with a 1-5 record and an 8.00 ERA in his 18 innings over 7 starts. He did strikeout 19 batters though, which is good. Overall, it was a pretty poor AFL season compared to expectations, but that is not out of the norm for pitchers out there.
Elmer Reyes didn’t have too positive of a game either, going 0-4 with a strikeout and a GIDP.
Today is the final game of the season for the Scottsdale Scorpions since they will not make the playoffs. They play at 12:35 MST.
Dominican Winter League
A couple of players saw action in the DWL yesterday. Here are their lines:
- Christian Bethancourt – 1-3, K, 1 SB against
- Wirfin Obispo – 2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 K
It is nice to see Bethancourt get a hit, as they have been few and far between for him in the DWL. Of course, his playing time has been very sporadic, so that could be the cause of his inconsistencies. Christian is hitting a lowly .115 so far in his limited playing time.
Wirfin Obipso has pitched well lately and that continued yesterday when he collected his 4th straight scoreless outing. Obispo has held hitters to a .175 average and has only allowed 13 men to reach base in his 11.1 innings this season.
Thursday is an off day for the DWL. All teams will resume play on Friday.
