On Monday, the Atlantic Coast Conference released its 2013 all-conference teams, and there were two members of the Georgia Tech football program selected.
As Paul Johnson indicated via Twitter, offensive guard Shaq Mason and defensive end Jeremiah Attaochu garnered enough votes to be selected, with Mason grabbing 1st-team honors, and Attaochu finishing on the 2nd team. Mason was one of the best lineman in the league throughout the year, consistently winning on the line of scrimmage regardless of opponent, and dominating to the the fullest extent that a guard can dominate.
For Attaochu, it was a narrow miss from the 1st team, but still a high honor to be chosen for the 2nd unit. On the season, Attaochu amassed 12 sacks (including 4 against Georgia in the season finale) and 15.5 tackles for loss, bringing his career totals to 31 sacks and 43 TFL’s in his 4-year career.
Three additional members of the Tech program were honored as “honorable mentions”. Running backs Robert Godhigh and David Sims finished 5th and 6th overall, respectively, in the voting for running backs, and offensive lineman Will Jackson was the 2nd-runner up at the guard spot. It was a bit of a shock to see only Attaochu grab enough votes on the defensive side, given how good that unit was this season, but placing 6 players on the total list is an accomplishment.
