The 2014 college football season can’t get here fast enough, and on Wednesday afternoon, the Atlantic Coast Conference released the official schedule for each of their members. In that vein, Georgia Tech’s calendar was unveiled, via a Tweet from their official account.
As you can see by the above Tweet/picture, this is a very interesting schedule for the Yellow Jackets, and there are a few stand-out items. First, there is no Thursday night game this season, and that is very unusual, as it marks just the second time since 1992 (per Georgia Tech PR) that the team won’t play on Thursday, and the first time that the entire schedule is made up of Saturday tilts since 1992.
In addition that scheduling oddity (which probably helps the Jackets in all honesty), the other significant item is that Tech will have a bye week before traveling to Athens for their annual showdown against the Georgia Bulldogs. Bye weeks are often overrated, but after a long, grueling schedule, it certainly isn’t a bad thing to get an extra week to rest and prepare before that game, especially when it could be a crucial one for Paul Johnson.
Lastly, there are some high-profile home games on the horizon for Georgia Tech. Miami and Clemson both travel to Bobby Dodd Stadium, and while there are some tough road games (Virginia Tech, most notably), having those two tough games at home AND missing Florida State altogether is an unquestioned plus.
We’re still 7-plus months away from college football, but the countdown begins in earnest now that the schedule is out there for public consumption.
