Representing your country in whatever you do best has to be special, simply because an entire country is supporting you and the eyes of everyone in your home land is watching your every move. With that said, one of Atlanta’s very own will be able to tryout for the US Men’s National Basketball Team.
According to multiple outlets including the AJC’s Chris Vivlamore, Kyle Korver will be one of about 30 players invited to training camp when the announcement is made by the team on Thursday. The announcement of Korver’s tryout is expected to be announced by head coach Mike Kryzewski and USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo.
The tryout will be for the 2014-16 USA Men’s National Basketball team. Out of the near 30 players invited, only 12 of them will compete in the 2014 World Cup in Spain and also in the 2016 Olympics that will take place in beautiful country of Brazil.
One of the reasons Korver received the honor was likely due to his 3-point shooting, represented by his impressive streak of 109 games with at least 1 made 3-point field goal. His defensive play may have had a part in getting the tryout to play with the countries best. Korver will be joining such players as Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Paul George (already announced as invites), and Portland standout Damian Lilliard, who is slowly becoming one of the top point guards in all of the NBA.
The staff here at ATL All Day will keep you updated on the story, including any official announcements moving forward.
