With the recent of announcement of Kyle Korver getting an invite to participate in tryouts for the USA Men’s National Basketball Team, it would be easy to dismiss him as the only Atlanta star to get a chance to represent their country on the biggest stage of them all, but that simply isn’t the case.

Atlanta Dream superstar Angel McCoughtry received an invite to participate in the USA Women’s National Basketball Team tryouts, which isn’t really a surprise, simply because she sometimes considered the WNBA’s equivalent of a Lebron James or Kevin Durant. She has been the go-to option for the Atlanta Dream for some time, and she plays her role and her sport very well.

The announcement was made on the 13th of January, and McCoughtry was one of 33 players selected for the 2014-16 USA Women’s National Team pool. The team will play in the USA World Championship this year, and if the US is able to qualify (which is a virtual lock), they will participate in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil. McCoughtry has some USA National team experience, unlike Kyle Korver, and she was a huge help to the USA National team getting a gold medal in the 2010 FIBA World Championships, as well as other events throughout the world.

When asked about the honor, McCoughtry said this:

"“I would be honored to be able to play in the World Championship again, especially with it being in Turkey.”"

McCoughtry was very adamant about being honored to play for another World Championship. With the games being in Turkey where she plays basketball for most of the calendar year, it makes it that much more special that she could try to accomplish a huge feat. If you missed the official announcement, you can go to www.usab.com and take a look for yourself at the list of players selected to the tryout pool.

Stay tuned as we will have a lot of more coverage heading into the tryouts.
